DAZ Studio 4’s Genesis system. The new DSON Importer enables users to export Genesis figures to Poser.

There isn’t always a lot of love lost between the two giants of the figure-posing software market. Which means that while Poser and DAZ Studio might do similar jobs, data doesn’t always move between them seamlessly.

But now the packages’ developers, Smith Micro and DAZ 3D, have teamed up to produce a new transfer plugin. DSON Importer enables users to import the Genesis figures introduced in DAZ Studio 4 into Poser.

According to the DAZ 3D website, “Figures, props, morphs and UVs created for Genesis … can all be installed and loaded into Poser just like any other Poser [characters].”

A few catches
It isn’t quite as simple as that: if you read the FAQs, you’ll discover that Genesis figures have to be converted into a compatible file format before you can use them in Poser (if you’re doing this with your own assets, you’ll need DAZ Studio 4.5.1.6), and that some features, such as collision detection and smoothing, aren’t supported.

But still, it’s a step towards interoperability. DSON Importer for Poser is currently available for free. The plugin will revert to its RRP of $24.95 after an unspecified period.

Issue with OctaneRender for Poser fix coming soonSome of you, working with the OctaneRender for Poser plug-in and our shaders, might have noticed, that after installing RC 3.08 of the OctaneRender plug-in,
RedSpec shaders start to act unnormally, as they did a while ago when the Normal map behavior of OctaneRender was changed.
The problem lies within the fact, that Octane treats a Normal map node with a grayscale valued '0' as flipped normals and thus renders the surface in a flipped state.
There will be a fix coming in soon for this - at this point it looks like it will be some time next week.
EDIT: The fix is released now and can be downloaded here:
